Mikasa Review

Someone from Mikasa contacted me and offered to send me this beautiful set of Grace dinnerware for a product review! Oh man...that's like offering drugs to an addict, how could I possibly say no! In my mind you can never have too many dishes and I happen to love Mikasa! Blogging certainly does have some good perks!

I love the design on these dishes and although the background color wouldn't have drawn me in while I was shopping I was surprised at how much I loved it on my table. The color is a little off on my photos. We've had so many dark, gloomy days that it was hard to get a decent photo! The color is very neutral and it would work well with almost any color of placemats or tablecloth!

They also sent me these beautiful Avenue wine glasses! I love the design and how the cuts catch the light!

I love that these dishes could be more formal or casual based on your table decor. Very versatile!

I think this set makes a very elegant table!

You can check out more beautiful tableware on the Mikasa website. Also...if you love solid white dishes, they have some really beautiful ones! I especially love the pattern called Antique White! I want those! LOL!

I love my new slipcover from Comfort Works!

One of the best perks of blogging is receiving items for product reviews and this one got me really excited!

Comfort Works offereded to send me one of their slipcovers for my Ikea EKTORP sofa. I picked out this blue striped fabric for mine but they have a very nice selection of other fabrics as well!

I love my white slipcovers so I was not sure how I would feel about a stripe but I love it! It's nice to be able to have a change once in awhile. It keeps things fresh! I really don't know how I lived with a sofa that didn't have slipcovers before this! I LOVE being able to wash my covers so easily!

The fabric is so soft, much softer than the white denim type of fabric that comes with the Ikea sofa. It makes the sofa more comfortable because it's so soft! The quality of these slipcovers is much better than the ones that come with the sofa too.

If you are looking for slipcovers I highly recommend Comfort Works for IKEA Ektorp sofa! They also carry other items like custom cushion covers, curtains and quilt coverlets.

HomeGoods! My Favorite Place to Shop!

I was so excited with the opportunity to do a little shopping courtesy of HomeGoods and BlogHer! As you probably know, HomeGoods is one of my favorite places to shop! I can always find something there which makes it the best place to shop for the holidays! I was given $50 to spend and it's amazing how much that can buy there! I had all intentions of doing some Christmas shopping for family and friends but then my daughter, Lauren and I both found things we really wanted instead! Lauren and I justified this selfish move by saying that most of our family and friends read my blog regularly and they would see their gifts!

We really need a new throw for the living room. They had a great selection of these and this one was only $14.99 and it's the perfect shade of blue for my home! I love the texture and it is so soft!

I have really been wanting a magnifying mirror like this since I used one of my girlfriends a few months ago. I originally wanted the kind that lights up and they had that type and at $50 it was a great deal...I know because I've been shopping around for one of these for awhile. I decided to get one that didn't light up because it was too good of a deal to pass up at $14.99! Lauren and I both LOVE this for plucking our eyebrows! The only bad thing is that you can see every pore and wrinkle!

Lauren got so excited when she saw this pink and black lap desk! She's always doing homework on her bed so this will be great for her! This was also $14.99. I guess that's a popular price at HomeGoods!

So for a grand total (with tax) of $49.13 I walked out with 3 beautiful gifts for my daughter and I! The fun we had walking around the store picking out gifts for ourselves was priceless! We had a blast! Thank you HomeGoods and BlogHer!

A New Show on ABC: No Ordinary Family!

The mom, Stephanie Powers, has super speed as her super power! That is a super power that I would love to have! If you read my blog regularly you probably know that I try to fit 48 hours worth of stuff into 24 hours - almost every day! Wow, if I really could have super speed that would be amazing!
I think super speed is something most of us moms would love to have! I would use it for cleaning the house, doing laundry and all those other chores that take up my valuable time! I would read more books, grow my own vegetables, make amazing meals, learn to make jewelry, learn to draw and paint, knit my own sweaters, go back to school, and everything else I've been wanting to do but use lack of time as my excuse! Think about it, if you had super speed you could have more time to relax and that's really what I need most of all!

Pom Wonderful!

Awhile back I got an email from someone from Pom Wonderful wanting to send me some of their products to try. They sent me 4 bottles of pomegranate juice!

I was already very familiar with their products because I love pomegranates and I had used their juice to make jelly a couple years ago and it was so good. In fact, Lauren, who doesn't even like jams or jellies loved it! It's the perfect balance between tart and sweet! I had been wanting to make more but never got around to it...until I got 4 bottles of it dropped on my doorstep! Thank you Pom Wonderful! By the way, they never even mentioned that I had to blog about it. They just said they saw my blog and wanted to send me some! It makes the best jelly and it's so much less time-consuming than trying to make it from the actual pomegranate! It took less than two bottles and I think I got about 7 or 8 jars of jelly!
Pom Wonderful has some wonderful recipes on their website and they even have a recipe for jelly but I used a recipe from the Sure Jell website because I wanted to can mine and not just keep it in the fridge or freezer. It turned out so good!!

I also used some of the juice to make a Pomtini during the holidays!

Do it yourself Chic sells beautiful appliques that can be added to so many things! I've used them a lot around my home...
Above is a little caddy box that I found at the thrift store a couple years ago. It was cute when I found it but it was really dirty and needed to be painted, but before I painted it I simply glued on this applique from Do it yourself CHIC and it added so much charm!
I also used one of their appliques on the headboard that I found free on Cragslist! What a difference that made!!!

Sharon from Pansy Cottage & Garden recently sent me an adorable apron and asked if I would be willing to do a product review for her! I must say that this is one of the best perks of blogging...getting all these wonderful free items to review. Just to be clear though, I'm really honest with my product reviews...I'm not going to say something is wonderful if it's not! With that said... this apron is AMAZING!!!!
I literally gasped when I pulled it out of the package! The fabric is not only cute but it's so soft! I hung it up in my kitchen and I kept feeling it as I walked by it! Lauren loved it too...so much so that she agreed to be my model for these photos!

Photofiddle Turns Photos into Art!

I received an email awhile back from a company called Photofiddle asking me if I would like to turn one of my photos into a work of art. I went to their website and I was really impressed with what they do. You submit your photo and they put it on stretched canvas and it has the texture similar to that of an oil painting. If you click on the photo above you can see the texture better. The hardest part was trying to figure out what type of photo I wanted to use but I decide on the vignette above. They even let you see a proof of how it's going to look before they send it to you! They also have different styles you can choose from like watercolors, color sketch , impasto, pop art, etc. You can see more of these different styles on their website http://photofiddle.com/

This piece of art is now hanging in my cubicle at work and it brings a nice touch of home to my office.

$500 Shopping Spree ~ A Dream Come True!

Have you ever had a daydream about someone offering you $500 to spend on a shopping spree?Well, I received an email awhile back saying that JCPenney and BlogHer were offering me $500 to go shopping for a new JCPenney line called Linden Street and all I had to do was write a review! Wow! I was doing the Happy Dance! Who wouldn't want $500 to shop for home decor items? So off to the mall I went and here's what I bought...

These goblets are my favorite! I've been looking for something like this and I was so excited when I saw them. They have a classic style that can be used for either a casual or more formal table setting. (you can click on the photos to enlarge)
I love the detail on the stem and the ridges on the top! The lip is thin (which I love) but not too thin that you're always worried your going to break it. I really love these goblets! I bought 6 and I think I'm going back to buy 2 more (on my own dime).

Below is their cake plate. I really like the classic clean lines and it's large! I would use this not only for cake or cupcakes but it would be great to serve appetizers, cheese and crackers, fruit, or cookies. I think this is a very versatile piece.
The Linden Street line includes a lot of interesting lamps. I chose this floor lamp which would work well next to a chair, sofa or even as a reading light by a bed which is where I chose to place it.

It comes in a box with some assembly required. When I first opened this box I was a little worried but it went together very quickly because the power cord runs through each piece so it's just a matter of twisting each piece together...no tools needed.

I was really happy with the weight of this piece; the base is very heavy so you don't have to worry about it tipping over. The finish on it is also very nice. The arm of the lamp is adjustable and the lamp can swing out of the way if needed. I really like the vintage look of it! Lauren loves that she now has a great reading light next to her bed!
This is one of their wall decor items. It's made to look like old crown moulding. They are made out of resin but are very heavy. The retail price on these is $100 for the pair which I thought was really high since they are only a little over a foot long but they were on sale for 1/2 price which was much more reasonable. They come with screws and hanging directions but I think these would look great in a bookcase just leaning against the back.

Here are two finials that I love. The black metal one is very heavy and it actually looks like it could be an old finial you find at an antique store. I really love this bird! They also have a lamp with this bird on it. It has a nice distressed white finish.
I also love this Linden Street basket. It could be used in a bathroom to hold towels or in a family room to hold magazines. It holds A LOT of magazine! Which is great because I have tons of magazines!

Although I love their decor items, the 300 thread count sheets felt a little thin to me. The sheets come in a set with a fitted & flat sheet and two pillowcases. They also sell extra pillowcases, which is great because most people do have more than two pillows! I was really happy to see that! I put the sheets on Lauren's bed and she said they are very comfortable and soft. The sheets are sitting on top of a cotton blanket; it’s the perfect weight for summer. It was very soft and came in nice colors. Below is another home decor item. It's a really heavy hurricane candle holder. It's made out of a thick bubbly glass. I think this would be perfect to take out on the patio; the glass would keep the wind from blowing out the candle. I added some sand, shells and a candle which is how they showed it displayed on their website.

For the price their towels seem like a good value. I would say they are about a medium weight towel. I usually buy really thick towels but I've noticed that they take forever to dry in the dryer so maybe thinner towels would be better in that respect. They are extremely soft! They are sitting on top of a bath rug which is very plush and soft. It comes in a choice of 8 different colors! The towels, the rug and blanket are all getting shipped off to my son in college. He was thrilled when I told him about them!

When I was at the JCPenney store I also looked at the Linden Street furniture and was pleasantly surprised with the design and quality. I hadn't been in a JCPenney store for years and I was impressed with all their furniture. My shopping experience was very favorable. Each department was well staffed with very helpful employees.
